Getting Around

Rent a car? Take a bus? Hop on a train? There are many transportation options to access Corfinio and greater Abruzzo! Below are a few options to help you navigate travel and transportation in Corfinio and around Abruzzo.

  • Most international travelers arriving by air will land at Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Naples International Airport (NAP), or Abruzzo Airport (PSR) in Pescara. Upon arrival, you will be able to find rental car and car hire options, as well as bus and train options depending on your point of entry and desired destination.

A tip if arriving at FCO: if you need a quick refresh before making the trip from Rome to Abruzzo, I recommend HelloSky, which is an airport hotel and lounge at FCO that you can use for a quick shower and/or a 2-3 hour room stay. Showers are available for 30 min rentals (10 euros), and you can add on breakfast (5 euros). If you need a bit longer of a rest, you can reserve a day-room for 2-3 hours that includes a bed, desk and full bath. For more information or to make a reservation, visit https://hellosky.travel/

  • We recommend considering a car rental if that is an option for you; it gives you flexibility in accessing the many parts of Abruzzo and beyond during your trip, particularly since much of Abruzzo is rural and remote. You can find many of the major car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Budget, etc.) and many local/regional car rental companies at all 3 airports.

There are also car rental companies located in Sulmona, which is the largest village near Corfinio. Please check back for more information regarding Sulmona-based rental car companies.

  • From Rome/FCO:

Prontobus is a bus service that runs several routes daily from FCO to other parts of Italy, including Abruzzo. You will take it from bus stop #5 to Pratola/Sulmona A25. That bus will drop you at Pratola Peligna (not in Sulmona). The ride is about 2 hours and tickets are priced around 20 euros one-way depending on day/time of departure. For more information and to book online, visit https://prontobusitalia.it/

From Pratola Peligna, you can take a taxi/car service to Corfinio. The bus stop is a parking lot rather than a bus terminal, so there likely will NOT be taxis waiting. So, you will likely need to schedule a ride in advance or be prepared to call and wait upon arrival. Up Taxi operates taxis throughout Abruzzo, and you can call or book online to schedule: https://up-taxi.it/
